Combined Heat & Power System at Hotel Resort
A 495-door (room) luxury resort was looking for a solution to reduce their energy costs and protect themselves from power outages from the local utility grid, so that resort guests would not be inconvienced on their vacations and the hotel could continue to provide air conditioning, laundry services, refrigeration and other guest services.
Project Details:
- Installation of a 600kW CHP system
- System provides 85% of peak load requirements
- Hotel gets on-site electricity and hot water (for all guest and house services)
- Hotel remains connected to local utility (for back-up and additional power needs)
- System installed and operated on-site for control and security
- No capex expenses for hotel
- System is maintained and monitored by Berkshire
Results:
- Hotel saves 13% on their electricity costs (over $250,000 per year)
- Hotel reduces its dependance on local grid, avoids power outages and saves money
